Strong Bones in a Nutshell

You can significantly influence the strength of your bones. What you eat and how physically active you are will literally "make or break" their sturdiness.

Because bones are constantly changing (adding new cells and losing older ones) they will always benefit from you doing "good things" to keep them strong. Step up to a plate of flavorful, healthful foods that can build strong bones to last a long and happy lifetime.

  • Eat different types of foods—The more variety the more bone-building nutrients you’ll get.
  • Pick whole foods over more processed ones—Processing can remove skins and seeds which contain good-for-you nutrients. For example: a whole apple has more to offer than applesauce or apple juice.
  • Choose foods over supplements—Supplements have captured only a handful of the nutrients found in foods. If you solely rely on supplements to get the nutrition you want, you miss out on many important bone-building nutrients. Besides losing out on what they have to offer, it’s unknown if taken in pill form, nutrients are as beneficial to our health as they are in food.
